What Does Cluster Of Small Foci Of Increased T2/FLAIR Signal In Periventricular Cerebral White Matter Mean?
My doctor thinks I have MS for I have many clinical symptoms for 20 plus years. Can you tell me what this means on my MRI: There is a cluster of small foci of increased T2/FLAIR signal in the periventricular right sided cerebral white matter. There are no additional potential white lesion matters identified.
Dissemination in time can be established in one of two ways
1. a new lesion when compared to a previous scan (irrespective of timing) T2 bright lesion and/or gadolinium enhancing 2. presence of asymptomatic enhancing lesion and a non-enhancing T2 bright lesion on any one scan.
Diagnosis of multiple sclerosis can be confirmed only after fulfilling above criteria on MRI in relation to clinical features.

What Does Cluster Of Small Foci Of Increased T2/FLAIR Signal In Periventricular Cerebral White Matter Mean?
Hi, Thanks for writing in. Multiple sclerosis is diagnosed on MRI scan by a criteria set aside and including clinical symptoms and signs after medical examination. The diagnosis of multiple sclerosis requires establishing disease disseminated in both space and time as per McDonald criteria. Dissemination in space requires ≥1 T2 bright lesions in two or more of the following locations periventricular juxtacortical infratentorial spinal cord Dissemination in time can be established in one of two ways 1. a new lesion when compared to a previous scan (irrespective of timing) T2 bright lesion and/or gadolinium enhancing 2. presence of asymptomatic enhancing lesion and a non-enhancing T2 bright lesion on any one scan. Diagnosis of multiple sclerosis can be confirmed only after fulfilling above criteria on MRI in relation to clinical features.
