Hello, I have read your query.
A mass and consolidation are very close differentials, and differences in attenuation, enhancement etc are taken into consideration to differentiate them.
There maybe masses within a consolidation as well, hence they are measured as one large opacity.
They may appear similar on a CT, with many overlapping findings.
The best way to assess the current study to know if its a new or growing lesion, is to compare it to the earlier scans.
Also we need to keep in mind what kind of treatment he's had- eg surgery, Radiotherapy,
biopsy etc, as these can also cause changes.
Your doctor may suggest medication and a re-scan sos biopsy.
Hope this is helpful. Wishing you and your husband good health. Take care.
