What Does Difference In Gestational And Foetal Age Indicate?
I went into the doctor last monday July 6th for a ultrasound, showed five weeks 6 days pregnant but placenta showed to be 12 weeks. My blood test have been going up in hcg number, 13000 on tuesday and today 9000 what does this mean? Could i havee been prednant with twins and lost one? or am i losing the baby?
A slow rate of rise or a drop in HCG levels during the first 8 to 10 weeks of pregnancy represents death of trophoblastic tissue and can indicate ectopic or nonviable intrauterine pregnancy. Serial quantitative HCG values are, therefore, helpful in management of threatened early pregnancies. I would suggest you to repeat your hCG levels and check for serial decrease in hCG levels which may indicate ongoing miscarriage. Kindly monitor your ultrasound for the fetal status.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
