What Does 'distended Endometrial Lining With Anechoic Free Fluid' Mean?

My doctor has written to me with the results of a recent pelvic scan. The scan shows distended endometrial lining with anechoic free fluid, thickness of endometrium 4.7cm. He has recommended a gynaecological referral. I am 60 years old. What does this diagnosis mean?

Hello.
Thank you for contacting HCM.

I have gone through your ultrasound report and the thickened endometrium mentioned in the report is a cause of concern and should be addressed accordingly. If I were your treating physician I would like to run further tests esp. histopathological examination of the endometrial lining to rule out any malignant growth. The anechoic free fluid usually shows small amount of fluid collection in the endometrial cavity due to abnormal endometrial lining.

I would recommend you consult your local gynecologist for detailed clinical evaluation, diagnostic investigations and further treatment accordingly.

I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns.
Wishing you good health.
