Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went for my annual physical today, and in the last year my PSA went from 1.98 to just over 4. I am a 64 year old male. I am a pre-diabetic with an A1c of 5.6. Are there other causes than prostrate cancer? I am scheduled to see a urologist in about 2 weeks.
Hello and welcome to HCM, PSA is elevated in prostatic cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis and prostate infarction. However, in prostatic cancer, the PSA level is quite high, much more than 4. However, in this scenario, PSA gradient and PSA density will be ore helpful. Thus, I suggest you to consult your urologist for PSA gradient and PSA density.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
