I was just informed that my son's SED rate was elevated (and I have to follow up with a hematologist) but before I can get an appointment, I'm researching the internet (worst thing to do) but in any case, the SED rate was elevated but the white blood count was normal....does this mean the elevated SED rate is NOT due to an infection?

Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
SED rate is a non specific test . It can be elevated due to infection , inflammation , Anemia , vasculitis , or Even cancers. I want to know how high was the Sed rate? Because there are very few conditions which causes very high sed rate. Coming to your question infection can still cause high sed rate with normal wbc count. Kindly upload the report so that I can review and advise you better.
Any clarification feel free to ask .
