What Does Follicles In The Ovary Mean?

I just had an ultrasound today on the 14th day and the report is as follows

UTERUS:

Anteverted, 72x32 mm

Myometrium shows uniform echos

Endometrial Thickness 5mm

Cervix 37mm, normal size and shape

Internal OS closed, External os closed



Right Ovary: size 28x25 mm Shape normal

Left Ovary: size 45x35 mm Shape Normal



Right Ovary Follicles - contains 29mm follicle



Left Ovary Follicles - 35mm cyst



Culde SAC - empty

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

The report suggests a normal uterus at the time of scanning.

The right ovary measures 28 x 25 mm and shows a large follicle which can be the dominant follicle.

The left ovary measures 45 x 35 mm and is enlarged due to the presence of a 35 mm cyst within.

A normal cul de sac is empty so it is acceptable.

There is nothing to worry with above scan. The cyst in left ovary may resolve soon.
