What Does Hypoechoic Nodule As Shown On Ultrasound In Case Of Hypothyroidism Refer To?
Hi doc, I am Anu.. 'm diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 months before and my tsh was >150 that tym. I was put into thyroxine and now my tsh level has reduced to 17 now. But an US revealed a hypoechoic nodule @ isthmus 7x3.8mm. And doc has asked to wait and do a US again after 6 months. But now I'm noticing 3-4 nodules on lower neck behind my ear. One of them really big and another one is appearing as having 2 nodules at the same time. Please suggest whether there is something to worry about this??
Hello, Welcome to HCM and thank you for your question. I do understand your concern. Thyroiditis Hashimoto is often accompanied with nodules in the thyroid gland. You mentioned that the nodule in ultrasound was about 7 mm in diameter, but did your doctor tell you more about other elements that are suspicious for malignancy? When the nodule is The presence of the neck lymph nodes is also an indicator to do the fine needle aspiration. If you were a patient in my clinic i would suggest you to do an ultrasound of the neck, and if these lymph nodes seems to be not reactive in ultrasound than FNAb of the nodule is recommended. Aa about the TSH level, the thyroxine dose is not enough, you have to increase the dose. Hope i was clear with my explanation and hope it will help you somewhat. Best regards, Dr.Guni
