What Does Increased Episodes Of Dizziness After Thyroid Removal Surgery Suggest?

Hello - I have experienced mild dizzyness for years. However, in the past two years, I had my thyroid removed to to cancer. Then, I began to feel PVC.s. My cardiologist finally suggsted an angiogram, The procedure showed that all of my arteries are clear. However, I did have an MI about 14 years ago. A very small portion of my heart was damaged. Since then, and until recently, I have felt good. However, my cardiologist suggests that my increased dizziness and loss of energy might be attributed to the years my heart has aged and may be struggling as a result of the weakening of a portion of my heart aausws by mr MI in 2002. Any suggestions?

Hello,

In my opinion, your dizziness is not related to thyroid surgery. Probable causes of your dizziness are benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), postural hypotension meaning decrease in blood pressure on standing, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, severe dehydration, hypoglycemia or low sugar levels, usage of certain drugs like anti depressants, anxiety disorders, carbon monoxide poisoning, occlusion of carotid artery and congestive heart failure.

To those who come to my clinic with similar symptoms, I recommend blood pressure recording in standing, sitting and lying positions, blood glucose testing and ECG and 2d echocardiography. I would suggest to take tab. Vertin 16 mg once daily for 1 week. If the dizziness is due to BPPV, it will alleviate the symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
