What Does Inflammation On The Lower Legs Indicate?

I have for some time now had redness on my lower leg in front and on my calf. It s now almost purple. Didn t really hurt or bother me until recently I ve notice the skin is like an open sore. Not bleeding... puss like. No sores and no pain to speak of until I push on it. I plan to contact a dermatologist. Just was promoted to ask a question so I figured why not? Thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The purple area at the leg and calf indicates underlying changes in form of old hematoma with secondary infection.

I recommend to keep the part clean with antiseptic liquid, dry. Consult your doctor for necessary antibiotic, anti inflammatory drugs.

I wish that you recover fast.
