What Does Left Posterior Communicating Artery Atrophic Mean?
I am 54 year old female. I just received a CT scan report that indicates that left posterior communicating artery is atrophic. Left anterior cerebral artery is also described as atrophic. Right posterior communicating artery is small. All other entries under Circle of Willis say that there is no disease. I can t find any information online about arteries being atrophic. What does that mean, and should I be concerned?
1.The vascular abnormalities / variations which evaluated could be from birth - but never found. 2.As the brain has blood supply from two sides it is compensated from the other side. 3.The next possible cause could be vascular pathology, systemic diseases like hypertension, diabetics. 4.In this case you need to first followup with the underlying medical condition, treat them and make sure that they are controlled. 5.Further if there is any neurological abnormalities due to blood supply - an intervention / treatment needed according to the findings.
Good luck. Hope i have answered your query, any thing to ask ? do not hesitate to ask. http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-ganesh/62888
