What Does Micro Vascular Ischemic Disease And Vasculitis Mean Based On MRI Report?

Mri Brain (Including Brain Stem) without contrast.

Differential diagnosis includes microvascular ischemic dieease, primary demyelinating disease, vasculitis and migraine. Diffusion images demonstrate no diffusion restriction.Wife worried what does this mean?

Thanks for writing in to us.

There might be small scattered areas of T 2 hyperintensity in the brain as found on MRI scan. This appearance might be due to many causes. First it can be due to decreased blood flow through the small channels in the brain. It can also be due to loss of myelination of neurons in the brain. Lastly there can also be an inflammation of blood carrying channels called as vasculitis. Clinical examination is most important.
