What Does Mild Loss Of Cervical Lordosis Suggest ?
Hi doctor, I am 24 yr old female.I found my MRI report with following problems. 1.L5-S1-reduced disc height with loss of disc hydration. 2.significant broad based posterocentral disc protrusion causing bilateral neural foraminal stenosis and strecting of the exiting nerve roots. 3.screening of the cervical spine reveals-mild loss of cervical lordosis. Is there any treatment? Can I sufeer with same problem after treatment?why this problem take place?
Between the vertebra are intervertebral discs. These discs are involved in absorption of pressure in the back and distributing any force. They are made up of two main areas, the outer ring called an annulus fibrosus and an inner part called the nucleus pulposus. These discs are made up of a gel like substance that has in a lot of water.
In your report- L5 to S1- the decreased water content in the disc has caused it to have a loss of height. If the disc lose fluid they may also get small breaks and may protrude (stick out) of their normal space. When this protrusion occurs the disc may compress any surrounding nerves.
The report indicates that there is some protrusion of the disc along with narrowing of the foraminal space (one of the spaces where the nerve passes).
Loss of cervical lordosis- decrease in the curvature of this area.
Physiotherapy may help to reduce any symptoms associated with these changes.
I hope this helps
