What Does Mild Sphenoid Sinus Mucosal Thickening Post A Hit On Head Suggest?
My daughter hit her head a couple weeks back and has been having terrible headaches ever since. There is an actual dent in her head. I took her to the doctor and they requested a CT scan. I have the results but haven t had a doctor explain it to me. The only thing is isn t normal, is mild/moderate sphenoid sinus mucosal thickening. The visualized mastoid air cells are clear. What does this mean?
She had any history of loss of consciousness, vomiting or bleeding from nose / ear then? If not, chance headache being related to trauma is very less. This report indicates no signs of head injury. Mucosal thickening of sphenoid sinus can happen in chronic sinusitis. But sphenoid sinus is an uncommon site for this, and the mucosal thickening is only mild- so chance is less. But this need more clinical details to be sure. You can discuss with an ENT specialist regarding this.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
