What Does Mitrofurantain 300mcg In Urine Culture Mean?

Hi, my uncle was down with fever. He did an Urine Analysis, the outcome was Pus Cells 20 - 22 / HPF.. referred 5 / HPF....Also, Urine Culture was also done and is said Mitrofurantain 300mcg S....... what does it mean... please advice.. also.. if down with urine infection.. does one get fever ?..... thanks....

Thanks for writing to HCM

Your uncle is suffering from urinary tract infection(UTI).
This is indicated by presence of excessive pus cells in urine.
He need few more investigations like routine hemogram,Random blood sugar,Renal function test and Ultrasound of abdomen. Further investigations can be done if needed.
Nitrofurantoin 300mcg S means microbes are sensitive to Nitrofurantoin drug.He should be treated with this drug only.
Fever is due to UTI. Fever will subside with control of infection.
