I want to understand how to differentiate between lymph node TB and lymphoma. My FNAC report says - Smear consist of many neutrophils, lymphocytes, plasma cells and few histocytes in a necrotic backgrund. No granuloma/atypical cells seen. AFB strain - Negative Please help to understand the same.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The interpretation of FNAC of lymph node is as follows: The FNAC shows presence of inflammatory cells comprising of neutrophils, lymphocytes, histiocytes, plasma cells and necrotic background. There is no evidence of granuloma and stain for tuberculosis bacteria is also negative. The report is negative for lymphoma. There is no evidence of lymphoma or any other malignancy. Absence of granuloma and tuberculosis bacilli rules out tuberculosis. The FNAC findings suggest some non-neoplastic cause like infective or Kikuchi's disease but no lymphoma or tuberculosis. I suggest you to consult your referring doctor with the report for further management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
