What Does My MRI Report Suggest?
I have undergone an MRI scan and the findings are " L5-S1 level disc dessication with posterocentral protrusion abutting the ventral thecal sac and left S1 Traversing nerve root-Mild Facetal Arthropathy at L5-S1 Level.Please tell me what does this mean

According to MRI report you have degenerative disc disease of lumbar spine.
Degenerative changes occurs in spine due to aging and development of weakness in annulus fibrosis which allows herniation of disc.
1.At L5-S1 level,there is disc dehydration (loss of water)with postero central herniation of disc and it is abutting ventral thecal sac and left S1 traversing nerve root.Mid facet arthropathy is also noted at this level.
Treatment for degenerative lumbar disease includes physiotherapy or surgery.
Effectiveness of both modalities are same.So,physiotherpay should be tried first. It causes strengthening of Para spinal muscles and it prevents further changes.
Surgery should be the last option.
There are also medicines like capsule pregabalin available for pain relief.
Treatment can be planned after consultation with neurosurgeon.
