My wife had an MRI today. The technician kept telling her to wake up, that the MRI showed her asleep. She was not asleep and told him so. He kept insisting she open her eyes and wake up, but she was awake and her eyes were open. What would cause a MRI to show a person asleep when they are awake?
Dear Sir, Thank you for using Healthcare Magic to provide an explanation for your concern. MRI, as almost all imaging modalities, requires specific conditions to avoid any signal "deformity" due to some particular MRI machine technical issues, or patient foreign material (such as metalic objects) which interfere with the signal transmission, resulting in artefacts and image missinterpretation. If your wife had not been previously advised not to have any make up on the day of the exam, then this might be the reason for your question. Eyelid make up contains a percentage of FeO or Fe2O3 (iron oxid) within, which prevents the signal emitted by the eyeball to pass through the eyelid. That causes image blurring, or signal loss of the tissues behind it. Hope this was helpful. Thank you! Dr. Juarda
