I am experiencing an issue with my right lower ankle. In 1991 I broke 2 of the three supporting bones in my leg. Years later it was discovered that I had experienced 5 blood clots in my leg at the time of my surgery. This was never discovered by the doctor. tell years later. The Saphenous vein was closed from the ankle to mid calf. Later the mid calf to knee was collapsed. In finding the blood clots one was located below the ankle and surgery was not done to correct the issue. Now in 2016 it appears that that area is causing pain. MRI shows a large fatty tumor is pressing on the tunnel in the ankle that has many nerves. I was told that if I loose weight the fatty tumor will shrink and correct the problem. My question is this: Will a fatty tumor shrink when one experiences a loss of weight? I have been told 2 thinks. 1. It will shrink. 2. Only fat shrinks within the body and NOT fatty tumors. Because of the area located the doctor feels that surgery should not be done due to the nerves in that area. It is painful and I am wearing a boot along with support stockings daily. Have been since October 2016. Thank you for your response to my question. Lorna
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I am with the variant 2, which means that fatty tumors do not shrink when you lose weight. If you have pain then find a good orthopedist and do the surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
