What Does My MRI Scan Test Report Indicate?

I just had an MRI done and I don t understand what this means. C5-6: Disc is desiccated and reveals brad based posterior and right paracentral as well as foraminal herniation, with slight inferior migration. The disc osteophyte complex causes compression of anterior subarachnoid space, both C6 nerve roots, indents anterior surface of spinal cord and causes mild to moderate narrowing of the central canal and foramina, bilaterally (right more than left). The herniation measures approximately 7mm in size. I was in an auto accident 2 yrs ago and had a partial disketomy (removed a little bit of the bone from the back of my neck) that was 6mos after the accident. But I ve been getting worse lately and have burning in the back of my neck, weakness in both arms, tingling, numbness and my neck and shoulders hurt so bad. My head hurts to hold up so I rest it constantly against something.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

The report says that the disc between to vertebral bones in neck is degenerated and bulging from its usual position. This is causing compression of nerves (to arms) exiting vertebra and narrowing of fluid space inside spinal cord.

This can cause weakness, numbness or tingling in arm, and can interfere with normal circulation of fluid inside spinal cord. Kindly discuss with your surgeon. Sometimes this may demand a revision surgery.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
