Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Trying to understand why they want biopsys...... Left lobe of the thyroid gland measures 5.31 x 1.80 x 2.6 cm. Blood flow appears to be mildly increased and symmetric with the right. Echotexture is diffusely heterogeneous. 3 fairly well-circumscribed distinct nodules are identified. This 1st nodule is located in the mid left thyroid lobe toward the isthmus and is solid measuring 0.83 x 0.62 x 0.62 cm (previously 0.64 x 0.67 x 0.64 cm). The next solid nodule is located slightly more laterally measuring 0.97 x 1.0 x 1.1 cm (previously measured 1.3 x 0.95 x 1.0 cm). The 3rd nodule is located inferiorly and contains a dense peripheral calcification which causes shadowing, measuring 1.1 x 1.2 x 1 cm (previously measured 1.4 x 1.2 x 1.1 cm).
Nodules in thyroid lobe can be due to goiter, benign or malignant nodule.
To correctly identify the nodules, radiological investigation, aspiration cytology and biopsy are required.
An ultrasound has already been done. Further, I suggest you consult your surgeon for clinical assessment and thus further investigations like aspiration cytology (FNAC).
Depending on the result of FNAC further surgery needs to be planned.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
