Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my biopsy reads. basil cell carcinoma, incompletely excised at the deep margin ; Overlying actinic keratosis. comment : epidermis shows overlying parakeratosis and actinic keratosis like changes with enlarged, mildly atypical squamous cells. present in the dermis are nests of basil cell carcinoma with atypical basaloid cells showing a peripheral palisade layer. these extend to the deep margin of the shave biopsy. the surrounding dermis demonstrates marked solar elastosis
The lesion you have removed has some changes that seem like basal cell carcinoma. This is a type of skin cancer that is generally well treated and very rarely spreads. The biopsy also says that the margin of the excision contains such cells. This means that the lesion is not removed completely. The doctor will have to decide how to remove the rest of the lesion, by surgery or burning it.
I hope this answers your query and is helpful to you. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
