Hello, after many doctors visits due to fatigue and daily headaches (after a diagnosis of hasimotos now under control with Synthroid) they sent me for a CBC. My WBC is 5.1 (on the lower end) with a platelet count of 184. My MCH is elevated at 32 and my MPV is elevated @ 12.1 also. What could this indicate?
Hello and welcome to HCM, A white blood cell count of 5100/ cubic millimeter is within normal range. This value does not suggest any pathological condition. A platelet count of 1.84 lakhs is also within normal range. The normal range for platelets is between 1.3 to 4.5 lakhs /cubic millimeter. The MCH which is one of the red cell indices. A value of 32 is also within normal limits although in the upper range. MPV is a platelet parameter. It represents the mean platelet volume. Its upper range of 10 and thus it is slightly elevated. A high MPV suggests slightly large platelets.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
