Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Had a carotid ultrasound done. The right carotid was hemodynamically (it is very small print so I probably spelled wrong) significant, internal carotid artery stenosis is estimated in the 70-99% range due to heterogeneous placque. The external has less than 50% stenosis. The vertebral has antegrade flow. Six month follow-up recommended by community standards. Physicians comments: Agree with above. RICA has increased by one category and may want surgical consultation. The 70-99% is scary to me I only printed the results after I spoke to doctor. What do you think? Than you.
Hello In my mind, the estimate of the right internal carotid artery is too broad. An artery that is about 80% or more occluded needs surgery to clean it out to keep you from having a stroke. The follow up study is definitely warranted to see if the occlusion is approaching the 80% or greater range.
