Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my doctor wants me to have a carotid artery ultrasound this week. What do they expect to find? and then what happens? 3 years ago I had an ONYX valve replacement and was on a clinical trial using Plavix and Aspirin. A year later, I was later told the trial ended and to start warfarin even though I never had trouble with the Plavix/Aspirin. Within two weeks I ended up hospitalized with stroke like symptoms…but never diagnosed with a stroke. Could this be related?
they are asking for carotid doppler because they are thinking some sort of obstruction in the carotids which may be responsible for lack of blood supply to brain, this obstrution may be transient or may cause permanent damage .whether this can be prevented in future or salvagable loss are to be decided .
