After a positive PPD got CXR results: mild biapical fibrosis compatible with old granulomatous disease.I am 59 64 inches tall weight 124.I was treated with radiation for Hodgkins 2A approx. 16 years ago.Never had s/s of TB? What is wrong with my lungs?
Hello and welcome to HCM, A PPD test is done for tuberculosis. The X-ray chest shows bi-apical fibrosis. Bi-apical fibrosis is the fibrosis of bilateral lung fields in the apical region and it is compatible with granulomatous inflammation. Tuberculosis is one of the granulomatous inflammation. A positive PPD test and fibrosis on X-ray chest both raise a strong possibility of tuberculosis. However, demonstration of acid fast bacilli (causative agent of tuberculosis- mycobacterium tuberculosis) is required for confirmation and start of anti-tubercular therapy. A sputum test may be required for demonstration of acid fast bacilli. A precious history of Hodgkin lymphoma is a different disease. Lowered immunity due to hodgkin lymphoma can predispose to development of tuberculosis.
