What Does My Serum Bilirubin Report Indicate?
I am a 19 years old boy from Bokaro (Jharkhand).
This year on 3rd August, my SGPT rose to 11,448, SGOT to 15,848 while my Serum Bilirubin (Total) was 6.4. Further, My SGPT and Serum Bilirubin varied in the following manner:
9th Aug, 2011: SGPT-1121, SB (Total)- 10.7;
16th Aug, 2011: SGPT- 104, SB (T)- 17.0;
24th Aug, 2011: SGPT- 95, SB(T)- 5.4;
1st Sept, 2011: SGPT- 208, SB(T)- 3.3;
5th Sept, 2011: SGPT- 283, SB(T)- 3.0;
23rd Sept, 2011: SGPT- 49, SB(T)- 49;
After 23rd Sept, I went for the LFT several times (approximately 6 times) and my SGPT kept on varying between 63 to 137. While SB (total) kept on varying between 0.6 to 1.0.
Today's Report (28th Dec): SGPT- 137, SB(T)- 1.0;
I am having Udiliv 150 gm (3 times/ day) since the last 10 days. Apart from this, I am totally avoiding Junk food, Fried n spicy items and am having only home-cooked simple food.
I would like to know the reason for such fluctuations. Is it normal?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
The value of SGPT has dropped from very high levels to low values, however, still high.
The bilirubin has come within normal range.
This implies that the bilirubin metabolism has become normal.
However, there is ongoing liver cell damage.
The previous illness may be causing this damage.
Since, you are taking your medication and avoiding high risk factors (junk foods), the level of SGPT will recover with time.
Get the SGPT levels monthly to see for improvement.
Very frequent tests is not required.
