Hi Dear ,
Welcome to HCM.
Understanding your concern.
Thanks for your query . Difficulty in opening jaw indicates temporomandibular jaw (TMJ) dislocation. It could also be possible that you jaw got
fracture ,but chances are less as per information given by you.
Numbness in cheeks can occur because of many reasons like nerve compression due to TMJ dislocation , jaw fracture or swelling ,usually it is temporary .
I would suggest you to consult oral surgeon without any delay for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may order X-ray or CT scan for proper evaluation . Doctor may correct dislocation or perform minor surgery for fracture if it is there .
If the numbness start going away after treatment then its fine ,otherwise consult neurosurgeon .
For now keep your jaw stable by tying bandage around head and jaw , eat soft or
liquid diet and give warm compresses on face several times a day . For pain and swelling take
ibuprofen and
acetaminophen .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
