Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was in a car accident 3 months ago. Was diagnosed with whiplash and went to PT for a while. I m a fitness instructor so I was able to incorporate PT into my classes so I backed off on visits. I woke up yesterday with a tingly/numbness in my fourth toe. I assumed I slept wrong and went about my day. By the end of the day, the same feeling presented itself in my quad as well. Both the toe and quad feel the same tonight. It s almost a warm, burn feel sometimes. Other times it s just numbness. Is it possible that this is related to the whiplash? Should I go back to my doctor and request imaging?
The nerves that supply the lower limbs arise from the lower back. Injury or issues with the lumbar spine would affect the thighs, legs and feet.
Injury or issues with the neck would affect the head, neck and upper limbs.
This means that the symptoms are not likely related to the whiplash but it is possible that you may have sustained injury to the lower back as well that may need assessment by examination and imaging.
I hope this helps
