What Does Pain Behind The Belly Button Suggest?

Hello, I am a 35 year old active male. I have been experiencing a very slight pain behind my belly button. I have experienced this pain off and on for years. I would feel it off and on for about 2 min and it will go away. It s not a bad pain, but it is sharp. Even though it is tolerable, I am just wondering if I could possibly have a hernia.

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Probable causes of your pain behind belly button are umbilical or paraumbilical hernia, umbilical granuloma, sister Mary Joseph nodule which is a metastasis from gastric cancer, acute epidydymitis, or pseudoaneurysm.

You need a detailed clinical examination in person by a surgeon and if necessary tests like complete blood picture, and ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis to arrive at a specific diagnosis and for appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
