What Does Pain In The Big Toe Indicate?

Good Evening, I am having a nagging dull pain in my big toe. It seems to be the nail and it is on one side. I have previously had ingrown toenail removal several years ago so the pain does not feel like that. I have noticed that the toenail has grown out and the top part is a little discolored. Pain not real bad but I know its there. I can wear any closed in show with no problem, it just throb a little.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Maybe your ingrown nail is recurring again. Sorry to say but is recurrent even though it is being removed years ago. Usually, it pains first and the nail starts growing and then will be visible.

In such cases, pathological process takes some time. In order to halt the process, you can try putting your palm in the hot water and try using moisturizing lotions or something but whatever you do it's not possible to halt growing nail.

You can try cutting the nail if visible. Try cleaning it every day. If it's too much painful then go to a doctor and get that nail removed so that it regrows again.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
