What Does Pain In The Rib Cage On The Left Side Indicate?
I have had a pain in my left rib about halfway down on the front side for months but I have been having a great increase in pain in my left rib area for four days. The X-ray was normal and the ultrasound did not show a herniation. Could it be a spleen problem even if my blood work looks good?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The rib cage pain is not caused by spleen, if the blood work and the ultrasound results are good. You have also done X-ray which excludes possible lung diseases or costochondritis. Rib cage pain might be related also to pinched nerve from bulging disc in thoracic level of the vertebral column, gastric ulcer, reflux disease or Morbus Crohn. To exclude these diseases you should consult a neurologist for a physical examination and also a gastroenterologist to perform a gastric and intestine endoscopy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Suela Gjata
