What Does Persistent Tenderness In The Right Knee And Groin Area Indicate?

patient complains of persistent tenderness in the right knee and groin area. The tenderness started a few weeks after he injured the big toe of his right foot, which became red, swollen, warm, and painful. He says the toe improved without medical attention. The knee and groin tenderness remain. What could the physician identify as the cause of the patient’s knee and groin pain? What is a possible treatment?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As far as my clinical experience is concerned, the groin area pain can be co related with secondary lymph node enlargement after toe injury. The knee pain on same side of toe suggest possible injury related sequence as ligament sprain or others, which should be addressed by ortho specialist.

Do give me further chance to assist in future. Thank you.
