What Does Placenta Dipping Into Lower Segment Grade 3 Mean At 30 Weeks Pregnancy?
Hi Dr. Manjunath, I had a scan at 30 weeks and in the report it said 'placenta was dipping into lower segment Grade III' . I wanted to know if the Grade III they are talking about is the maturity of placenta or the position? In both cases does this signal bad news for me? 1. If the placenta is grade 3 maturity then will it last till I am full term since I am only 30 weeks now? 2. If the placenta position is grade 3 and partially covering my cervix, will I require a c section? Please help. I am worried about the health of my baby and also mine.
1. The grade they are speaking about is for placenta abruption, which is a condition in which the placenta slips away from its normal position and either partially or conpletely blocks the cervix.
2. This depends on the location of the placenta close to delivery, and if at all it is grade lll or lV, then a c-section may have to be considered.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
