What Does Polypoid Mucosal Thickening In Ethmoid, Bilatermaxillary Sinuses And Right Ethmoid Sinus Mean?

Doctor, please help me with your advice, my CT scan report says I have polypoid mucosal thickening in ethmoid, bilatermaxillary sinuses and right ethmoid sinus . What does it mean, does it indicates that I have polyps. Do I need to go through the surgery or can be ignored. I have severe throbbing pain from right nose to night head above the ear, can not concentrate, nor able to recollect and remember things. Mild congestion in both the nostrils. I was given several antibiotics, to my surprice nothing gave me relief. Please do help. I do Netipot , Neti sutra, breathing and yoga in the morning.

Dear friend, welcome and thanks for entrusting your query here at HCM!
I am Dr. Prasad Akole (Critical Care Expert- http://bit.ly/Dr-Prasad-Akole) and am glad to address to your query here.

Yes, you rightly think you have polyps.
The sinuses are lined by thickened polyp-like lining in ethmoid and maxillary sinuses.
These are empty spaces in the face bones.
The resultant blockage of the openings are giving you what is called ‘sinus/ suction’ headaches.
You should see a good ENT expert, get decongestant/ anti-allergic therapy as deemed appropriate.
FESS (Functional endoscopic sinus surgery) may be advised which is endoscopic visualization of inside of the sinuses and clearance can be done.
If antibiotics are not working and you have infection (fever etc), a culture can be done and antibiotic chosen accordingly.

I hope you are fully satisfied with the guidance I gave.
I would be glad to answer any further queries. May I request you to rate your experience here before you close.
Thank you and Good luck!
