What Does Presence Of Blood In Urine Despite Treatment Indicate?
My son is urinating blood for almost 2 months now and doctors couldn t figure out why. My son went into the E.R. they ran some tests gave him a full bag of saline and 2days after his urine had No Blood. After that the blood in the urine came back. Do you have any Recommendations or Suggestions? He s been drinking a lot More water and this continues.

It is important to ascertain whether there is presence of hemoglobin in urine or presence of red blood cells.
Causes for presence of hemoglobin in urine are different from those responsible for presence of red blood cells.
Presence of red blood cells in urine can be due to trauma or injury to urinary tract,stones in urinary tract or kidney dysfunction.
Presence of hemoglobin in urine is seen in kidney disease or dysfunction.
One of the common cause of kidney dysfunction is children is nephrotic and nephritic syndromes wherein red blood cells and hemoglobin can be present in urine.
Thus, other urine parameters also need to be assessed.
In addition, renal function tests also need to be done.
Consult your pediatrician for clinical assessment, investigations and thus management.
