What Does Presence Of Small Nodules In Thyroid From Scan Result Indicate?

Hello, I had a thyroid scan in July, 2014. At that time, the scan showed three small nodules. A had a repeat thyroid scan today. The technician said that my thyroid looked totally different. She said it was larger and that it had changed in texture and color. I have never been treated for my thyroid. What can cause these changes? Is the thyroid active one?

You seem to have multinodular goitre. A thyroid gland can grow over time in a case of multinodular goitre due to the action of the hormone TSH(Thyroid Stimulating Hormone). A multinodular goitre can also cause active and inactive areas within the substance of the gland which can be seem as hot and cold areas on a radio isotope scan of thyroid. The treatment of multinodular goitre is surgery and most patients lead a normal life post surgery with thyroid supplementation. Hope this answers your queries. Take care.
