What Does Protein In Urine Indicate?

I am a diabetic type 2 treating with insulin lantus and Humalog when I eat. There is slight protein in my urine and I am just researching to see what it is and what type diet will help. I also have controlled high blood pressure. I am a black male so yes I know I am at higher risk. I eat right and exercise probably could do more. I also drink bourbon before I go to bed. 2 cocktails

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You have type 2 diabetes and you are on oral & insulin injections and you take protein for arresting progress of the condition. Protein in urine suggests Diabetic Nephropathy.

You need full diabetic profile & kidney function tests for specific treatment. Any alcohol should be stopped/restricted to little amount in the medical condition under consideration.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
