What Does "multiple Mildly Enlarged Mesenteric Lymphnodes" Mean?
My daughter had about 1 year back desentry. Recently she has been suffering from abdominal pain and required to go toilet for 6-8 times a day. There is no diarrhea but going frequently for toilet causes discomfort. Her stool report was normal (everything absent except pus cells occasional). After that tinilox treatment started and another doctor asked for sonography to be done. Report showed "multiple mildly enlarged mesenteric lymphnodes seen in periumbilical region s/o mesenteric lymphadenopathy - favours infective changes". Can you please help in interpreting the result and does this require any medication?
According to the reports there are multiple mildly enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes in periumbilical region s/o mesenteric lymphadenopathy. Normally these lymph nodes are not seen during imaging. They are seen when they become enlarged in size due to infection of intestine or lymph nodes itself. These are the draining sites,so these become enlarged in size when there is distal infection. Infection may be due to many reasons like colitis,T.B etc. Treatment of underlying etiology should be done after confirmation of cause.
