hello. about 8 years ago i fell and hit the back of my head on a metal play scape. It has left a noticaible scar and raised bone where on the left side of my occipital bone where i hit, about the size of a flatish marble. This evening my boyfriend and i were having sex and as i reached orgasm i felt a shooting pain from about midway up,just left of my spine in my neck to the site of the old injury which is also on the left at the occipital bone. It has been about an hour now and the pain has continued. it feels like a nerve pain mixed with a pressure, kind of tingly but definitely uncomfortable. i took 3 aspirin at first and just not to long ago 3 ibuprofen but it doesnt seem to be easing up. it crossed my mind that i could have possibly dislodged a clot at the site of the old injury and wondered if i might be prone to anurism or stroke. Ive never had a pain like this isolated on one side of my head. what do you reccomend i do? on a scale of 1 to 10 the pain is about a 7.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Back pain is not always indicative of a spinal problem. Rarely is back pain an emergency or serious medical condition. A proper diagnosis is paramount to determine the best course of treatment. A thorough physical and neurologic assessment may reveal the cause of the pain. The examination begins with the patient's current condition and medical history. The oral segment of the examination often includes many questions such as "when did the pain start?" - "what activities preceded the pain?" - "previous treatment" - "does the pain radiate or travel into another part of the body?" - "what makes the pain less or greater?" - and so on.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
