Hi! I had my blood test done as pre employment requirement. the doctor gave me referral slip for further medical test. sgot 211 iu/L but no sgpt level indicated. does it mean that I have normal sgpt but high level of sgot? does this indicate a serious health condition? I am 27 yrs old and I am smoking 4 sticks a day. I usually drink alcohol twice a month but before I had my blood test I avoid drinking alcohol for a month. I also had extreme workout 2 days before the test. thank you i hope you can help me...

General & Family Physician, Dr. Nishad BN's Response
Hi Thank you for asking HCM I have gone through your query.SGOT is not highly specific for liver. It can be raised even in muscle or kidney or heart damage. So the results should be clinically coordinated by a physician. If your SGPT is normal then the liver damage is most unlikely. But further investigation is needed. This result can be due to some medicines you could have taken also.Hope this may help you. Let me know if you have any further query.
