What Does Shadow In Ventricles In Ultrasound Report Indicate?

Hi, I went to my 20 week ultrasound and when i went back to the docters they said that there was a 2cm shadow in one of the ventricles to the heart. I have to go back the 24th but have to wait till the 27th to hear anything myself. Im so stressed and nervous about this. What could the shadow mean? And how could it be fixed?

Hi,

Relax,
The 20 weeks scan is know if everything is ok with the baby.
They are just suspecting something ,nothing is confirmed as yet.And 2 cm shadow will require a repeat scan by a fetal medicine expert and probaly a Echocardiography of the fetal heart.
There is a very good chance that everything will be normal.
So,by worrying just now and increasing your anxiety levels ,is no good.

The shadow could mean nothing,it could an artifact ,or sometimes it could indicate that baby having heart problems.But ,nothing can be said for sure till an Echo is done.

If at all a defect is found in the baby then you will be seen by a paediatric cardiologist ,who with discussion with your obstetrician will decide on further management of the pregnancy.
But as I said ,wait for further scan and dont worry just yet ,it could be nothing.
