What Does Sharp Pain And Mucus Discharge After Paraguard Insertion Suggest?
Hi, I had a paraguard (IUD) inserted a little over a year ago. This past week I have been having a few sharp pains here and there and I ve noticed a mucus discharge that s similar to egg whites that I ve never had before! I took a mirror and looked and I can my strings hanging out! 2 strings that I could actually grab and pull if I wanted! I felt inside and I went up to my cervix and I can feel the tip of plastic! Can you please help me and tell me what could possibly be going on here! Should I go to the ER?!
- Minor cramps are common post IUD insertion - If you know that your doctor had trimmed the strings and they suddenly seem longer, it is a good idea to reach out to your doctor to see if the IUD needs to be repositioned or the strings need to be trimmed - The fact that you can feel the tip of the IUD at your cervix is another reason to reach out to your doctor - The mucus discharge is less concerning unless its foul smelling or if you're spiking a fever
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
