What Does Sharp Pain Behind The Knees Indicate?

For the past week I ve been experiencing a hot spot on the back of my thigh. Not painful and no rash. But it s noticeable and even wakes me up at night. I had experienced a sharp pain behind my knee weeks ago; MRI did not show any tendon damage. Dr thought nit may be a bakers cyst. Could this be related even though it is higher up on my leg?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sharp pain in the back of the knee may be due to leg cramps, jumpers knee or biceps femoris tendinitis or gastrocnemius tendinitis or meniscal tear or anterior cruciate ligament injury or posterior cruciate ligament injury etc.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is.

Take rest, use tablet Ultracet. Use cold and warm compression.

If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
