Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i was sitting at my table and I got a very sharp pain in the top right side of my head...the pain was intense and i had to close my eyes, then it progressed to behind my right ear and down to the base of my jaw. I ve put a call into my doctor but she hasn t called back. I m just needing an opinion
By how you describe this headache, I most likely think of a trigeminal neuralgia. The trigeminal nerve is both a motor cranial nerve (muscle contractility) and sensory cranial nerve and gives 3 main branches:
Ophthalmic, maxillary and mandibular. In other words, it gives sensitivity to the face and all its structures.
1, 2 or even 3 branches of the nerve can be affected, therefore it can produce intense pain in eyes, ears, lips, nose, scalp, cheeks, mouth, jaw and the side of the face.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Luis Alberto Urdaneta Arenas, General & Family Physician
