What Does Sharp Pain On The Right Side Of The Abdomen Indicate?

I m having a sharp pain on my right lower side of my torso/abdominal area that comes & goes. The pain only last for maybe up to a few minutes at a time. I ve been having this symptom for the past few days now. I m just curious if that s a symptom of a problem with an organ, or what could be the cause?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Abdominal pain in the right lower side may be caused by few reasons. A very common one is constipation, especially if you have difficult or very solid bowel movements. In females ovarian problems can be a cause as well. Many times a muscular pain is the cause. Inguinal hernia is another possible cause.
To conclude i would say:
- try to take fiber in diet with fruit and vegetables (plums and pears have plenty) and also fiber supplements. Drink well and avoid fast food.
-if you have been playing sports or pain started after a certain movement taking paracetamol might be advisable.
- if you notice a lump in the groin area than hernia is likely and you will need to see your doctor soon.
- otherwise If the pains are lasting for longer than 7-10 days or if they are getting more intense or more frequent you will need to see your doctor and have proper examination to determine the cause of the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
