What Does Sharp Pain Under The Left Breast Indicate?

I was I was at a conference over the weekend and on Saturday I began to have a sharp pain under my left breast on top of my rib cage area. I still have the pain and was wondering if it could just be a strain of some sort. Maybe from lifting my suitcase? It hurts to lay on my right side and have just been resting and taking Advil. I plan on going to the Dr. if the pain persists.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Looks like your are suffering from costochondritis, which is a temporary inflammation of cartilage in the rib cage. If the pain is associated with sweating, fever, shortness of breath etc., then you can go to a hospital. It’s good to evaluate with some cardiac tests like ECG.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
