What Does Single Intrauterine Gestation Of A Ultrasound Suggest?
My issue is similar, I had an ultrasound last night at ER and the findings read: Single intrauterine gestation; Mean sac diameter 18.9 cm (estimated gestational age of 6 weeks/6 days) without evidence of a yolk sac fetal pole or free fluid. Why is MD asking me to repeat labs and ultrasound of all these things are missing.
Hi, Usually by six completed weeks of gestation ultrasound can show the fetal pole and fetal cardiac activity. But as in your case ultrasound didn't show these features, the possibilities are: -Wrong dates -Blighted ovum. In which case gestational sac will develop without fetal pole. In case of wrong dates, doubling of beta hcg levels in 48 hours can indicate normal viable pregnancy. In case of blighted ovum that much increase beta hcg levels may not be seen. So by repeating ultrasound and beta hcg levels one conclusion can be drawn regarding the condition. Take care.
