What Does Skipped Menstrual Cycle Followed By Prolonged Bleeding Indicate?

This question is probably for a gynecologist. I am a female that just turn 50 yrs old. I been having my menses normal every 28 days since the age of 13 yrs old. In the last 6 months I ve been skipping my period or no period at all. I thought since I m 50 yrs now that is is normal to happen but then my period started again and it s been constant for last 6 weeks. Some days look like it s finished but the next day it s very heavy bleeding and keeps going. Any ideas? Or is this normal to happen at 50 yrs old? I was told that I have fibroids very small about 10 total. Thanks

HI
Well come to HCM
I really appreciate your concern, in age of 50 years irregular menses is very common phenomenon and it is happening due to great changes in hormone level and it is happening for menopause but it is nothing to worry, heavy bleeding of course needs attention just to stop the serious condition due to loss or blood hope this information helps.
