What Does Small Orange Specs When Spitting Out Mucus Indicate?

I have small orange specs when spitting out mucus. Have been spitting up mucus for about 5 months now. I dont cough it up, but its hard to tell if it is coming from sinuses or not. The specs do not look like blood at all. More like the color of ear wax. Really want to know what they are.

I have gone through your query regrding orange colouration of sputum you coughed out.

Orange discolouration of sputum is called as haemoptysis. This is because of blood in sputum. As a rule this is to be decided from where blood is comming. The blood oozing site may be in throat / sound box / trachea / lung or it may be from posterior part of nose. This can be diagnose by clinical examination and few basic investigations like-

1- x-ray chest , sinuses and nasopharynx.

2- culture and sensitivity of sputum.

3- Gram's staning of sputum.

4- Sputum for occult blood.

With the help of inferences of above investigations and clinical examination your diagnosis may be made and that may be accordingly manage.
